We..,Mere Spectators..

Things across India are not at all like that in Slumdog.., We are prosperous ..Yet not everyone here is a millionaire.. So is the case in the rest of the world !
And a rupee makes a difference to this lady .

Question ... should one give alms at the traffic signal and encourage it ?
Encourage the organized market of begging business which never comes to the fore. These beggars are never begging for themselves. There is a syndicate of kingpins and rich thugs who ferry around and deploy beggars at designated traffic points and temples ,collecting days earnings the beggars get a commission/food in return.

Fact .... NGO's and social reconstruction communities try in vain to protect the young kids who get sucked into this maelstrom of organized begging. If some people do wish to mend their life, they face the wrath of such kingpins who function under the aegis of powerful politicos.

Question... So what do we do ? How does one show direction to the little kids begging at street corners ?

Question ...How do we teach them vocational trade and craft ? Help them become self reliant and self employed so that they could earn money , to sustain themselves. How do we stop the nurturing of potential criminals and their petty thievery .

Question ... How does one fight such an organized enterprise protected by the selfish ?
Fact... Like everyone, I have questions and no answers.I am an average individual.Maybe I have a little enterprise , some ideas, yet I have no energy left with me in these times of economic duress(Sic !).

Fact ..I am in the end , a mere pathetic excuse of a spectator !

Ya, I agree with you here...we have questions, not answers.Sometime ago I used to travel to my office in our car with my husband..on a particular traffic light, there were a lot of kids knocking on car windows all around.I discussed my dilemma with a gentleman, who suggested that I should carry biscuits and bananas in my car and give the kids food, instead of money.I did just that-- but on the second day, the kids refused to take bananas, and pestered us for "a rupee" only!It was very disillusioning....these kids were not hungry..they were just left there to support their parents,( or whoever!)!...Oh how I would like to get hold of these parents who think its alright to bring a child in this world even when you know you can't even feed it, let alone give it a right to a decent life....
Its a vicious circle..can't blame it on one person.Nobody is serious about his job in our country.the politicians, the beaurocrats, the police...nobody is bothered.Thats why we have "Slumdogs" happening ..which we applaud so heartily, but forget that its our shame, in fact.

Thank you Arti.
These are not the only issues that we face. I appreciate your understanding of this concern, especially your personal experience. One kid actually asked for more than a rupee and had told me that a rupee doesn'nt help him.
I am sure that there are like minded people who feel the need to something about this.
Alas ! The powers that are behind curtains we can't see, are too strong and too mammoth for a single or a group to stand up to.
we are at a loss of action..

An average person can't do much about these issues. We don't have the power and we don't have the time. This is why we elect politicians, give them the power and expect them to attend to these issues. Sadly, they get amnesia with the acquisition of position and soon forget about people's issues. I really think that our judicial system is a frail one. No one fears it be it criminals/ politicians.

@Richa :Thank you Richie ! I hope you are doing lil constructive things that you can do help the society. It really is a great contribution, however small it is.

@Rashveen:Our judicial system is autonomous. There is no accountability. No one can question the judge. And under current societal circumstances that is so much power .Question is, What if the judges are corrupt and in handshake with the criminals/politicos ? This question is a no brainer. You already know the answer by now.
But what is it that you can do?
What you can do is to help in a different sphere. Teach whatever you can, how much ever you can to the economically underprivileged kids. Guide them, Show them a life of honest earning, and self sufficiency so that they understand the power of education and the their ensuing generations get benefited.
