LOVE !!As Science sees it .! ( Part 2 )

Love as Science sees it, is a BioChemical Reaction. It could be categorized into three types .What we all see as “Love at First sight” or the cupid strikes thingie ! ( Allow me to be a little vivid ... When everything seems to be topsy-turvy. When you are always a feet above ground in his/her presence. When you crave attention ) Then you need to go and get your levels of DOPAMINE checked . MRI scans of the brain of a person, who felt pleasure at the sight of a recent beloved revealed that a certain region in the brain exhibited extraordinary hyperactivity .This is the manufacturing region of a biochemical called Dopamine. (Ever Heard of Dope ! yep A Cocaine like effect ).All rationality goes for a Six. Person becomes bold and courageous .Willing to do anything. I guess most of you can relate to this semi rational state. ! And when the levels of Dopamine production reduces gradually over time .That is exactly when the person starts to appear a bore(Or maybe a Boar ! ,wild and grunting ! :) ) It is said , that Dopamine , in right amounts can cause intense energy and exctement.Ring any bells :) !!. Sometimes it is a credible enough source of motivation and concentration to achieve something. Yes , It is a double edged sword.

there are articles and news bits in the newspaper. A few lines hurriedly composed by a time starved journo about a suicide out of failed love !. About a murder due to failed love. Jea'lousy' in love led to blah blah and Yada yada . The very thoughts of which are revolting . And might sometimes spoil the very day you are planning to start on a bright note.People who behave in a way not very far from insane. Quick to anger and abuse yet very passionate in their 'love'. We al would have heard and read about greek tales of passion and Greek God of love "EROS" . The immortal tale of 'The Siege of Troy " and its ten year battle . Jealousy , hatred , love sorrow and "OCD" !! . Yes my friends, So starts the saga of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder ! .The mental disease which exhibits fits of calms and rage and obsession about anything or maybe everything! . Studies of people who have claimed to be relly passionately in love ! and compared to those suffering from OCD revealed striking similarities in the levels of a biochemical called SEROTONIN . Which is a neurotransmitter. I know I know this science thing is getting a trifle boring but believe me it is for real. People with OCD had serious imbalance of serotonin, So did people who claimed to be passionately in love. Studies and graphs showed both the groups having serotnin levels by 40 % . Eeek !!!!!!!!! Ack ! . Cough ! Cough !. Final translation :" Obsessive LOVE and OCD have similar chemical profile,and maybe extremely difficult to tell apart. Translation : Stay Away from love ! "

I shall now acquaint you to another well known scientific faculty . Area of expertise viz. the functioning of the mind , emotions , memories and their effects. I present to you Viola! Psychiatry and his cousins , Psychology and Psychioanalysis. And according to the pioneers in this field . (Mr sigmund Freud, Karl Jung ... etc) Love is nothing but a simulation of the earliest infantile experiences of a person. Yes! The feelings which are still engraved deep down inside the brain. Which we would like to recapture as adults . That is exactly why we can hear our hearts speakand question... "Ohh , I feel so comfortable with her" , "My God , I can feel it, He is the right person and feels so familiar!" .
Another theory in Psychology is the theory of Evolution.( Attention Animal Planet Watchers ) Animals where the female of a particular species look out for the the perfect (alpha male !) male to mate with. The Alphadom of this male ,apparently is proven by potentially life threatening fights amongst all the present males. (And the winner gets to keep all the females !) I cant think even think of something like that in the Homo sapien Sapien species .Yikes ! Gives me shudders. Though the scenario is not entirely ruled out if the males fight for the alpha female!! Just kidding. Coming back to science.... The possibility exists deep down in the human instinct to pass on its own genes for bearing a best offspring ,and thus for the purpose , find itself a very healthy and fit carrier. !!! Factors like physical appeal , intellect , survival skills, immune and looks do play an important role in partner selection. (Sigh ! what a cruel world this is !)

Women : 70 % waist to hip ratio . !
Men : Rugged features and intellect. !

Note : For dogs .. a sniff test works out great!

So doesnt Passionate love last ?. I am asking myself as i write this. Why do people see beauty first then Blandness later ?. Why are initial moments cherished and then later forced to accept as an antibiotic.? Why doesnt generous Dopamine not lead to generous OXYTOXIN (spelled oxytocin too .C'mon its a noun !!) . Yes you get it . This biochemical called oxytoxin is responsible for healthy emotions. Generous levels of this are observed whenever a person is near a child or a long married loved one. People with low levels of Oxytoxin are diagnosed with AUTISM. The inablility to socialise and understand relations ! . Shut out from connections and Society.
Generous 'oxytoxinics' exhibit feelings of Attachment and bonding . Of relationships , experiences of ups and downs in the company of people you know and respect. Not just restricted to opposite gender. Relationships frayed by money , mortgage , parents , responsibilities and children. Strengthning of friendships based on respect and admiration. Mutual likes and dislikes. Frankness and understanding. People with a healthy levels of Oxytoxin are void of jealousy and insecurity , Hence over a period of time ( true ! excitement is not that high) But if you can manage an even balance of Dopamine and Oxytoxin. There's nothign like it. ! :)

However , There is a separate species called the ' HOMOSAPIENS INDIANUS ' to which any logic doesnt apply nor rationalise . Otherwise known as the Indians . Science does not matter here , only stupidity. Like a buddy of mine always says "ITS IN THE MINDSET DA !!!..."
